Qld road toll hits 300

Queensland police say speeding and drink driving are the two major causes of road
deaths after the road toll for the year reached 300.
Three people were killed in separate incidents overnight, and a truck driver was killed
at Cunningham's Gap today.
The truck went over the edge of the Cunningham Highway about three kilometres
from the top.
Police say it is believed the driver was thrown from the vehicle.
Police Minister Judy Spence says she is concerned the death toll will reach a
12-year high of 400 by the end of the year.
"We're concerned about the fact that one-fifth of the road toll relates to motorcyclists
being killed," she said.
"They're very much over-represented in fatality statistics given that they only
represent about 2 per cent of the registered vehicles.
"But we're also concerned about the fact that people haven't learned their lesson
about speeding or drink driving."
